While I was taking this picture of the Coral Gables City Hall, a man came out of the building, saw me, turned around and started walking towards me. After reading so many stories of photographer harassment, my first thought was aw, crap, I’m in trouble.
I couldn’t have been more wrong. The man, a city commissioner called Ralph Cabrera, turned out to be a really nice guy; he asked me if I liked the building, and proudly began to tell me its history and all sorts of trivia. Turns out the building is a reproduction of the Merchants’ Exchange Building in Philadelphia, built with local limestone by bahamian workers and scaled-down to fit in the space where it is. Then he invited me to go inside and take more pictures, and gave me a map of Coral Gables with all the landmarks where I could visit and take more pictures.
It’s nice to see that a town as beautiful and colorful as Coral Gables is also so photographer-friendly.
